Public Sector Equality Duty

Here at St. Thomas of Canterbury, we promote inclusion and equality in all its forms.  As a school, we are commited to meeting the requirements of the Public Sector Equality Duty as set out in the Equality Act 2010.  This duty requires all public bodies, including schools, to have due regard to the need to:

  • eliminate unlawful discrimination, harassment and victimisation;

  • advance equality of opportunity between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not;

  • foster good relationships between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not.

We recognise and celebrate the diversity of our school community and we actively promote equality and inclusion through our curriculum, policies and day to day practice.  We are dedicated to ensuring that all pupils, staff and families feel safe, respected and valued.

As part of our commitment, we regularly review our curriculum,  policies and practices to ensure our school Mission Statement and our school values underpin every aspect of our teaching, including respect for all people.

Pupils are taught about disabilities, relationships, global awareness, black history, diversity, anti-bullying through assemblies, circle time, themed weeks, RSHE and PSHE.

If you would like more information about our equality objectives or how we promote equality and inclusion, please contact the school office.
