Year 3 2022 - 2023

Mrs Houghton

WELCOME TO YEAR THREE

CLASS OF 2022-2023

I look forward to working with you all!

Dear parents

Welcome to the Summer Term!

I hope that you find this page useful. I will use it to provide information relevant to the Y3 curriculum or to inform you about upcoming events/trips and to celebrate the wonderful learning that your children will be doing over the year.

In addition to this page, I will continue to use  our Class Dojo to communicate with you This is particularly useful for urgent class messages or requests.

If you require any further information that is not available on this page, please do get in touch and I will do my very best to help.

You will find lots of information in the files section below which will be added to as the year progresses.

In addition to this page, we also have a Home Learning Page where you will find information about your child's homework.

General Information:

Staffing:

Mrs Houghton - class teacher

Mrs Hayton - teaching assistant

P.E.

Our P.E days are Monday and Friday. Monday is our outdoor session and Friday indoor although this often changes!!   Children should come to school wearing their P.E. kit on these days.

Plastic Pollution:

We take our responsibility in looking after our wonderful world very seriously.  For this reason, the children should have a reuseable plastic water bottle (the coloured ones that come in different shapes and sizes.)

Water:

Children are encouraged to drink plenty during the day.  Please ensure that they bring a suitable plastic water bottle to school daily.  These should be taken home each evening and refilled for the next day.

Money:

Please ensure that any money sent into school is placed in an envelope with your child's name on.

Homework:

We follow the same homework policy and routine throughout the school.  Homework  will be given on a Monday morning and should be completed by the following Monday.  Most of the homework set is done online through Purple Mash.   You can find further information about Homework on the Y3 Home Learning page.

Curriculum

Spring Term

R.E.

Topics this term are  'Energy, Choices and Special Places.  We also explore Islam as we learn about other faiths.  I will continue to give an overview of each  R.E. topic as it is introduced  this term on dojo and you can find additional information about our R.E. curriculum on the school website.

Collective Worship:

We take part in daily acts of worship either as a class or whole school.  Please see the files section for some of the prayers that we share together in class and as a whole school.

English:

Over the next few weeks we will be using the following texts:

Into the Forest -   A book that is always enjoyed by the children.  It has lots of hidden surprises.

The Great Kapok Tree - a fabulous story of the Amazon Rainforest and how we need to do all we can to save it.

Charlotte's Web - a classic favourite.

You can learn more about what our English focus is on the medium term plan in the files section and on the main school website.

Reading:

As always reading continues to be a priority and we will resume our reading diary routine.

Maths:

We will be moving onto fractions and Data followed by money and time. Please do continue to encourage lots of practise with multiplication and division facts which will help your child considerably with their learning and extrta time spent practising telling the time at home would be very beneficial.

Science:

Our Science topics are Plants and Light.

Geography:

We cover two topics in Geography this term.  The first topic, the children are introduced to the Mediterranean as we explore our focus question 'What makes the Mediterranean a great place to holiday?'  Lots of work on weather and climate.  Following this we study our local area and explore maps and map reading.

Art:

Our Art study is a focus on colour and colir mixing.  We explore primary, secondary and tertiary colours. The children will use sketchbooks to research the artist Pablo Picasso and experiment with colour mixing.

D. T:

The children will look at seasonal foods and foods of the Mediterranean.

P.E:

The children will be taking part in Athletics  and Rounders.
