Year 3 2025 - 2026

Mrs Houghton

Welcome to Y3

We are delighted to begin this new school year and are very much looking forward to working with the children as they grow learn and thrive.  Y3 is a special time of transition and we are committed to supporting each child as they take their next steps with confidence.

Throughout the year, we will celebrate their achievements, big and small and  encourage them as they develop new skills, build independence and discover their strengths.  It is always a joy to watch their confidence blossom and we can't wait to see all that they accomplish.

Your child will be supported this year by:

Mrs Houghton (class teacher)

Mrs Hayton (teaching assistant)

Curriculum Overview

 Autumn Term:

We will be exploring the following books which will form the basis of our Reading and Writing:

Stone Age Boy

Hodgeheg

George's Marvellous Medicine.

Pupils will have the opportunities to write settings, diaries letters and non-chronological reports.

They will be introduced to Stone Age Britain and Climates around the world.

We are particularly excited about making clay pots in the style of Henry Moore and designing and making photo frames.

Homework:

Homework will be set on a Friday each week and should be returned the following Friday.

Spellings:

We introduce a new spelling rule each week and the children will be asked to learn spellings which will be tested each Friday.  There is usually an opportunity to practise grammar rules and handwriting as part of the spellings homework too.

Reading:

The children are encouraged to read each evening and to use their reading record to evidence the reading they are doing.  Two/three entries each week is recommended but of course the children may record more.

Maths:

Every child has a username and password for TT Rockstars to enable them to practise multiplication and division facts at home.  Learning multiplication and division facts sets a strong foundation for all areas of Maths and improves confidence and independence.

Occasionally, additional Maths homework may be given to consolidate learning.

Homework Book:

The children have a homework book in which to complete their homework.  It is important that this book is returned to school each Friday as spelling tests are completed in it and to enable staff to update the homework for the following week.

We ask that parents support homework by ensuring that all homework is completed  and  reminding children to bring homework books into school each Friday.

Rewards:

Children earn reward stamps for showing respect, responsibility and resilience as well and for good work and attitude.  Once they have collected 20 stamps, they receive a prize or they can bank these stamps and continue collecting to earn a bigger prize.

Contact Information:

Should you need to get in touch, please contact the main office to make an appointment.  If your query is urgent, you may use the class dojo system or pass on a message during drop off or pick up.

We are looking forward to a fabulous year with your children where thay grow in confidence and enjoy every moment of their learning.  Thank you for all your support.
