Year 2

19.7.2021

Dear Parents

We have just one more day of home learning today which also consists of PE in the afternoon. I will leave all of last week's topic work on for you to complete and also add in some English and Maths activities for the morning.

We will also have one Teams left -please see the calendar for the date and time of your call - you will have received an email invitation.

Please feel free to email me on hchomework@sthelens.org.uk as usual if you have any queries or concerns.

English

Please see the A-Z of the school year worksheet. I would like the children to think about one thing they have learned or enjoyed over the school year for every letter of the alphabet - see 'A-Z of the School Year Writing Frame'. We can then talk about their choices over Teams.

Please could they also bring along the book they are reading to share with the rest of the class.

Maths

Please see the booklets attached which will alow the children to practise all the skills they have learned this year.

Please could you also take the opportunity to help the children to feel confident with telling the time to the nearest five minutes. The best way by far to do this is to have an analogue clock on view in the house. You can then check the clock regularly and talk about the position of the big and small hands.

There is also one more new sheet to try, a puzzle to practise their times tables - see 'Summer Multiplication Mosaics'.

RE

This week, we have been learning about the treasures in our world. Please see the attached work for the week, which will help the children to recognise the many treasures have around us. Look for the 'Treasures' powerpoint - all work, reflections and collective worships are included.

PE

Please see the Pirate activity cards. They will provide a nice break from the classwork and there are some fun videos to watch which will give you ideas. Please make sure that there is plenty of space and that the children are with an adult - we don't want any broken ornaments!

Computing

Please look at the Computer Science part of this link, where you will find fun activities to support your child's learning.

History

In class, we have been learning about The Great Fire of London. As you know, we were going to make Tudor houses in school - we have drawn up plans and started to get our boxes ready. As we will only return on Tuesday, it is unlikely that we will have time to make them in school, which is a real shame as we were all really looking forward to it! I wondered if the children would like to have a go at making their own at home over the next few days. I am putting some links below to guide you but, in class, we discussed making them from two boxes, using the slightly larger one as the overhang on the top floor. I will leave it up to yourselves if that is something you would like to do or, if it is too ambitious, you could just use the links to the research and games below to deepen their understanding of the topic. Whatever you choose, have fun!
